FAQs

How do you use RGrain’s film overlays?

Using our products is easy. Each file is appended with a letter to help you choose the right transfer/opacity” mode. For example, a file labeled “35MM EI_200 [O].mov” indicates that the recommended transfer/opacity mode for this file is “OVERLAY”. Other letters include [S] for “SCREEN” and [M] for “Multiply”. Please note that these are recommendations and you can use the overlays with any other transfer mode. For more tips and tricks, visit the “Tips & Tricks” page.

My video doesn’t show film grain on Youtube and Vimeo.

Your videos can definitely retain their film grain structure. Here are a couple tips. The most important thing when uploading your videos to Vimeo / Youtube is to upload them in 2K and up, 4K better. If you only have a 1080P source, uprez it before you upload it. This way Youtube and Vimeo will allocate higher bitrate when doing their re-compression. Trust us it makes a huge difference. Also we recommend uploading ProRes 422HQ files.

Can you provide custom film grain plates?
